4x5 Film

These images are quite a throwback. They're scans from 4x5 chrome transparencies and negatives.

I spent many a day hiking and traveling with a 4x5 camera in a backpack to photograph scenes that I encountered. Photographing with 4x5 was not easy. You were limited to how much film you could carry with you. If you came back from a hike with no unexposed film, it was considered a great hike. Knowing what time of day to hit the trails was very important as lighting was key. Early morning starts were critical as the afternoon sun made for harsh contrast conditions.

Still, there was something special about looking at newly processed images on a Lightbox and reflecting back on the hike.
